Biomass Project

Anglesey Aluminium Metal Renewables Ltd, a subsidiary of Anglesey Aluminium Metal Limited, has made an application under Section 36 of the Electricity Act, 1989 to construct and operate a 299MW Renewable Energy Plant. The application to the Department of Energy and Climate Change is accompanied by an Environmental Statement. The Environmental Statement has been prepared by Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd and details the results of a comprehensive study of the environmental impacts of the proposed Renewable Energy Plant.

The Company has publicised the submission of the Section 36 Consent application by placing a notice in local newspapers and also within the London Gazette and Times newspapers, informing people of the scheme and inviting them to seek more information and/or respond. The notice will provide details of where the Environmental Statement may be viewed.

As part of the process, consultation has taken place with national and local organisations. Consultation days were held in June 2009 to inform members of the public about the proposals and provide an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns regarding the project.A second public exhibition to present the findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment was held in October 2009 and is included on this webpage. Details of the exhibition will be advertised locally and on this web page.

Bydd yr hysbysiad yn cynnwys manylion ynghylch lle mae modd gweld y Datganiad Amgylcheddol.

Fel rhan o’r broses, cynhaliwyd ymgynghoriad â mudiadau cenedlaethol a lleol. Cynhaliwyd diwrnodau ymgynghori ym mis Mehefin 2009 i hysbysu aelodau’r cyhoedd o’r cynigion ac i gynnig cyfle i godi unrhyw gwestiynau neu bryderon ynghylch y prosiect. Cynhelir ail arddangosfa gyhoeddus i gyflwyno canfyddiadau’r Asesiad Effaith Amgylcheddol yn ystod mis Hydref 2009. Caiff manylion yr arddangosfa eu hysbysebu’n lleol ac ar y wefan hon.

To facilitate the operation of the proposed Renewable Energy Plant, Anglesey Aluminium Metal Renewables Ltd has made applications to the Marine Consents Unit of the Welsh Assembly under the Food and Environmental Protection Act 1985, Part II (as amended) Deposits in the Sea; and Tidal Approval Works as required under section 58 of the British Transport Commission Act 1959; for works within Holyhead New Harbour.

The works include the extension of the existing Anglesey Aluminium Metal jetty and the dredging of a wider approach channel and a new berth pocket, to accommodate ships carrying biomass fuel. An Environmental Statement has been prepared by Mouchel and details the results of a comprehensive study of the environmental impacts of the proposed jetty extension. Anglesey County Council have confirmed that Planning Permission under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 is not required for any of the supporting works such as the biomass offloading units and construction compound  within the harbour as they will benefit from permitted development rights.
